Students take the backhoe by the horns at rodeoThere's nothing easy about breaking a bucking backhoe and that's no bull. Watch as students from five area high schools compete in the 5th annual Heavy/Utility Construction Equipment Rodeo. The event, hosted recently by the Pruden Center for Industry and Technology in Suffolk, tests their skill and ability to operate heavy equipment through obstacle courses and more.Ken Southard, instructor of the center's Heavy/Utility Construction Equipment course, said the rodeo gives students a chance to show their skills to employers in the construction industry.Three students won awards in three categories. They are: T.J. McMillan of Lakeland High School, winner of the obstacle course event; Charles Marple, Smithfield High, winner of the push/pull Race; and Daniel Moore, Windsor High, winner for the pin placement event.
